ARTIST STATEMENT
Since ancient times, constellations have been used by humanity to guide and navigate through the known and unknown landscapes of our existence. Whether serving as a tool to orient us during physical travel or representing the stories of the universe’s origins, these stars form the patterns which help us maneuver through the journey of being alive.
What is connected belief? Beliefs encompass every part of our lives as we explore our purpose and meaning. They inform how we face crisis, how we treat others, and how we see ourselves. The positions of stars can change slowly over time, even as their configurations remain the same. Likewise, our beliefs can shift through time as experience shapes our perspective.
This installation seeks to engage with the connections between our beliefs and actions. As we enter into the stories of three fellow travelers, we may also be reminded of our own odyssey.
Our hope is that each of us will look back, look up, and look forward as we seek to put our beliefs into action.
EXPLANATION OF SYMBOLS
Before modern technology, travelers relied on the stars to navigate. They named the constellations after stories they cared about.
Today, our beliefs guide us to live active, purposeful lives. Beliefs are tested in times of crisis, connect us to our communities, and change with us as we grow. The night sky offers us a mirror to reflect on who we are.
Our logo captures these three elements: connectedness, navigation, and inward reflection. Concentric circles connect the three dots. The line that sweeps across mimics star maps that chart the stars and astronomical objects in the sky. Each dot corresponds to an area of the digital media experience: crisis, community, and growth. These factors affect the star, which stands for our beliefs.
